Moldova will not prolong Russian gas supply contract, said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure of the Republic of Moldova Chiril Gaburici, Interfax reports. During the interview to one of the Moldovan TV channels, the minister noted that the Moldovan government repeatedly extended the contract with Gazprom, which is currently in force until the end of 2019. In the future, there will be no need for Russian gas, as Moldova will buy gas on more beneficial terms from Romania. The Moldovan government cost out that the Romanian gas would be enough to cover all republic’s needs. Chisinau and Bucharest have agreed to unite the gas transportation systems of the two countries for the Romanian gas supplying. The construction of the Chisinau-Ungeni gas pipeline will begin at the end of this month and will become the main link between Moldovan and Romanian gas transmission networks. Earlier, the gas auxiliary pipeline Iasi-Ungeni was built. Chiril Gaburici stressed that the renewal of talks on the supply of Russian gas with Moscow is possible only after the Chisinau-Ungeni gas pipeline completion: “There will be competition, everyone will fight for us as a client and offer us the best prices”. Having all the trumps in hand the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure stressed that “we will know how to negotiate in future to get the most favorable conditions”. The Chisinau-Ungeni gas pipeline construction is scheduled to be completed in 10 months. Source: profi-forex.org
