MEP Siegfried Mureşan questioned the ability of the Moldovan authorities to organize free and fair elections. In this regard, a European politician threatened official Chisinau with stringent monitoring of parliamentary elections. According to Mureşan, after the authorities undemocratically annulled the results of the Chisinau elections, ‘the ruling party intends to ban Andrei Năstase from participating in the parliamentary elections”. “To this end, the ruling party resorts to political tricks that have no place in the country that signed the Association Agreement with the EU. From this day, the monitoring of the pre-election situation in Moldova will be even tougher”, added Mureşan. As a result, he stressed that free and fair elections are a condition for any rapprochement with the European Union: “we expect from the Moldovan authorities to organize fair elections, in which all political actors will be able to participate”.
