Moldova should take advantage of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the European Union, since all of Europe’s attention will be focused on the neighboring country of the Republic of Moldova, said the head of the EU delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko at the presentation of the priorities of Romania at this post on Wednesday, infotag.md reports. “Romania for Moldovans is an example of the changes that the EU brings to people’s lives. Moldova has received much attention from the European Union, EU high-ranking officials Federica Mogherini and the Neighborhood Commissioner Johannes Hahn have repeatedly said about this, as well as in European Parliament resolutions and conclusions of the Council of EU Foreign Ministers”. According to Michalko, it is important for “Moldova to take advantage of the opportunities the EU provides”.   “It is necessary for the authorities to take measures to ensure the progress that the residents of the republic are waiting for. The upcoming elections, which should be an exam for standards of democracy, must be fair and free to continue cooperation with the EU, which was blocked last year due to non-compliance with the political conditions for receiving European aid”, the European diplomat said. He stressed that Moldova should continue the process of changing and adopting reforms, as well as fulfilling commitments in areas that are important to people, especially in the field of justice.
