Alexander Lukashenko expects Moscow to compensate Minsk for a loss of “hundreds of millions of dollars”. On Saturday President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the supplying of tainted oil via the Druzhba oil pipeline caused great damage to the Belarusian economy. BelTA news agency, quoting the President, reports that Belarus expects Russia to compensate for the damage. “This is a huge damage to the pipeline, the pipeline equipment and the oil refineries. And this is a huge damage to the country. We have lost huge amounts of money. This is hundreds of millions of dollars. This is hundreds of millions of dollars”, Lukashenko said. According to the head of the State, Belarusian Experts will calculate the damage. I think the Russians should not challenge this.  Lukashenko added that the Russian President “Vladimir Putin understands that it is necessary to compensate the damage”. According to the President of Belarus, it is “due to slackness and lack of discipline in Russia” there is poisonous oil in the pipeline. Russia suspended transit via the Druzhba oil pipeline at the end of last month due to reports of contaminated oil. Russia supplies oil to the countries of Eastern Europe and Germany via the Druzhba passing through the Belarusian territory. This led to an increase in world oil prices to a six-month high.
