Dodon: “Moldova and Gazprom will Sign a Contract in the Near Future”

Moldovan President Igor Dodon said that Gazprom has revised the contract for the gas supplying to the republic, which will be signed in the next two to three weeks. “Russia and Ukraine have not signed yet a gas transit deal, this issue was discussed with the Russian Federation and the new leadership of Moldovagaz, one thing is for certain that there will be gas supplying through Ukraine. There is hard work in this area, the contract with Gazprom has been revised and provides for a price cut.  It will be signed in the next two to three weeks,” Dodon said on Wednesday on Moldova 1, ria.ru reports. He noted that earlier agreements with the leadership of the Russian Federation on the issue of gas supplying are already in effect. “From October 1, we get gas from Gazprom cheaper, the discount we get allows us to cover the losses that remained from the previous government. The agreement reached with the President of the Russian Federation in September is valid. As from April, the tariff for ordinary consumers may be reduced,” added Dodon. Moldova is purchasing natural gas from Gazprom under an agreement that was signed back in 2008; gas prices are set depending on oil prices on world markets. The contract expires on December 31 of this year. Co-chair of the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental commission Vasilii Șova said in an interview with ria.ru that Moldova depends on Kyiv and its willingness to agree with Russia on gas transit in matters of Russian gas supplying.
