European Union Ambassador to Chisinau Peter Mikhalko claims that the signal given to society and observed in the prosecutor's office itself is very alarming. In particular, he referred to the arrest of the former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Viorel Morar. According to the European official, it is very important that the initiated investigations, including Viorel Morar, be continued, ipn.md reports The Ambassador sees as very alarming signals that some investigations are blocked, and some prosecutors who were involved in negative events in the past are reinstated and return to control, cases, including brought against them. According to him, this does not guarantee that the investigation will be continued. “If the information that the files may disappear confirms and those under investigation are involved in audits and controls, this should cause concern. Citizens must be sure of the changes that will occur and that the prosecutor’s office will act properly, and that they can rely on the work of bodies that must abide by the law,” Peter Mikhalko said on RTR Moldova TV channel. According to him, it was the second half of last year that serious steps were taken to investigate the theft of a billion, and this investigation should continue, it cannot be stopped or blocked. At the same time, the EU Ambassador confirms that the European Union will continue to develop various projects aimed at supporting citizens of the Republic of Moldova, but it is important to fulfill the conditions that European funding partners impose. “The reform process must continue, especially justice reform. And I see nothing problematic to insist on carrying out reforms to continue financing,” the European official said.
