Plahotniuc's Lawyer: Charges against Him Cannot Be Proved

Vlad Plahotniuc's lawyer responded to the charges against his client brought by a number of Moldovan politicians. According to the press release, these allegations are “unfounded, not supported by real facts and can never be proved, since they were not committed in reality,” tvrmoldova.md reports. According to the lawyer, the charges against Vladimir Plahotniuc “appeared in the pre-election period, when those who are now responsible for the state plunged society into a deep crisis and found themselves in a situation where they need to distract citizens from real problems of the country and from the situation in which the Republic of Moldova is now". Moreover, the lawyer notes that the case in which Vladimir Plahotniuc appears is of political nature and was initiated by the government's order. “Everyone could monitor actions of some politicians who publicly announced in advance the decisions that prosecutors were going to take in the case of Vladimir Plahotniuc. All these actions are nothing more than an obvious attempt to influence the act of justice through public statements and threats, as well as through direct pressure on prosecutors from those who currently lead the Republic of Moldova. We want every trial in our country to be fair, impartial and independent of any political influence,” the press release said.
