The Russian government has expanded the sanctions list of individuals and legal entities and organizations under their control, drawn up in 2018 "in response to Ukraine's actions that are unfriendly and contrary to international law." The Russian government has expanded the list of persons to whom "special economic measures" are applied in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin of October 22, 2018 and added to this list ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, the former head of the Ukrainian party "Voice" Svyatoslav Vakarchuk and 39 others persons. The special economic measures applicable to them mean freezing: non-cash funds, book-entry securities and property on the territory of Russia, in addition it bans withdrawing the capital out of the Russian Federation. Svyatoslav Vakarchuk reacted to the news of sanctions As stipulated in the decree of the government of the Russian Federation of November 1, 2018, containing the initial sanctions list, these measures were taken "in response to unfriendly and contrary to international law actions of Ukraine related to the introduction of restrictive measures against citizens and legal entities of the Russian Federation." A government decree of August 31, 2020 added 41 more names to it.
