On Monday, Maia Sandu, leader of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), met with the EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Peter Michalko. This was shared on her social media. In her post she wrote that during the meeting, she “expressed concerns to the Ambassador  regarding the CEC’s attempt to block the party funding of candidates in elections and falsified requests for pre-registration to open polling stations in Russia, which the CEC does not want to verify and cancel,” infotag.md reports. Speaking to the Ambassador, Sandu “highlighted the importance of ensuring free and fair elections,” noting that “Mr. Michalko had assured that the elections would be monitored by international observers.” “An important focus of the discussion was the EU program for Moldovan rural areas designed to build water supplies, roads, kindergartens and schools. The importance of the EU assistance to the elderly people was emphasized. Mr. Michalko assured us that the EU will further support citizens of the Republic of Moldova and contribute to our country’s democratic consolidation, with free and fair elections as a fundamental element of a democratic state,” Sandu said.
