This is the third EU summit this month but the first one to focus exclusively on how to deal with the pandemic. The head of the European Council Charles Michel decided to hold a European Union’s heads of state and government summit on October 29, related to the coronavirus pandemic. He announced this on his Twitter page on Wednesday, October 21. It is noted that the meeting will be held online. "Inviting leaders for an informal video conference on October 29, 2020 on COVID-19. We need to strengthen our collective effort to fight the #COVID-19," the message stated. Recall, this is the third EU summit this month but the first one dedicated exclusively to coronavirus pandemic combating methods. According to the latest data, more than 41.5 million cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the world; out of them almost 31 million ended in recovery and more than 1.1 million in deaths. Moreover, more than 7.5 million cases have been confirmed in Europe. As reported, the situation with COVID-19 has sharply deteriorated in the EU countries - anti-records for the incidence are massively recorded within. At the same time, Spain became the first European country where the number of people positive for the new coronavirus infection exceeded one million.
