Ukrainians Supported Zelensky's Survey Initiatives

According to exit polls, all five questions asked in the all-Ukrainian public opinion poll proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky received positive answers. Thus, the absolute majority of citizens of Ukraine (95 percent) supported the proposal to reduce the number of deputies of the Verkhovna Rada by a third - from 450 to 300 people. 81 percent of Ukrainian voters supported introducing life imprisonment for corruption on an especially large scale. The right of Ukraine to use the security guarantees defined by the Budapest Memorandum was supported by 78 percent of the respondents, 10 percent voiced against. The proposal to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes in the country - to reduce pain in seriously ill patients got supported by 70 percent of the survey participants, 24 percent voiced against. 45 percent of Ukrainian citizens supported the idea of creating a free economic zone on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions; almost the same quantity (43 percent) did not support it. The All-Ukrainian Poll, initiated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, was held on October 25 during local elections in the country. Volunteers of Servant of the People party invited people to fill out ballots with five questions when entering the polling stations. The opposition criticized the poll. The President's Office itself emphasizes that we are not talking about a referendum, that is, the results of the survey will not have legal force. Zelenskiy himself said that he considers conducting a general poll on the "five important questions" to be a form of direct democracy.
