Action and Solidarity (PAS) MP Igor Grosu was elected speaker of parliament. The decision was made at a meeting on July 29. 64 deputies voted for his candidacy. The vote was secret. Grosu has held senior positions in non-government organizations: Amnesty International Moldova, Contact Moldova's National NGO Information Center, Pro-Democratie Association and the Center for Analysis and Evaluation of Reforms. Grosu also was Maya Sandu’s Deputy when she was a Minister of Education. In 2015, he resigned, and then Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet appointed him as his adviser on science, education, health and social protection issues. Acting Prime Minister Gheorghe Brega dismissed Grosu from this position. After that, Grosu, together with Maia Sandu, became the founder of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), where he took over as General Secretary. In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Grosu was a candidate from the ACUM electoral bloc (PAS and DA) in constituency 20 in Straseni. Then Prime Minister Pavel Filip of the Democratic Party won the district. Nevertheless, Grosu entered parliament on the list of the ACUM bloc. Grosu is acting as chairperson of the party, after Maia Sandu won the presidential elections and left the post of PAS leader at the end of 2020.
