USA calls WHO’ decision “wrong”

Home / World / USA calls WHO’ decision “wrong”
Joe Biden promised to send 80 million doses of vaccines in aid to low- and middle-income countries. The US authorities criticized the WHO proposal to introduce a moratorium on the third dose of coronavirus vaccine and called this position incorrect. Jen Psaki, Press Secretary of the White House, announced this on the briefing on Wednesday, August 4. "We definitely think this moratorium is the wrong choice," Psaki said. According to her, the United States has enough vaccines to make a booster vaccine against coronavirus for residents of the country. Psaki also noted that, if necessary, the United States would offer additional doses of vaccines to countries in need without stopping the revaccination program in its own country. The White House stated this in response to the call of the head of the WHO, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, on the need to introduce a moratorium on revaccination against COVID-19 in wealthy countries. The head of the organization stressed that now it is much more important to vaccinate at least one tenth of the world's population with a double dose. However, this is not possible due to the “massive purchases of vaccines” by rich countries. Recall that the Israeli Ministry of Health has decided to revaccinate citizens over sixty years old with a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine.
