Belgrade said it does not intend to send troops into Kosovo, but it will do so “if violations against our population continue.”
Serbia is ready to use force to protect its citizens in Kosovo. This was announced by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic on the air of TV Pink, RIA Novosti reported on Monday, September 27.
“Serbia did not put the army and the police on alert, this is very important. Serbia has increased the readiness of the army and police. Serbia did not enter the territory of Kosovo, not because we do not consider Kosovo and Metohija our territory, but because, in accordance with the agreement in Kumanovo of 1999 and all the decisions after it ... We have no right to do this,” said Vucic.
He added that he confirmed the absence of plans to send troops into Kosovo in a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Vucic
“We do not want to jeopardize peace in any way. We need peace most of all. We will wait 24 hours for you to react as NATO (to the situation - ed.). And only afterwards, if this outrages against our population continue, Serbia will react to avoid the recurrence of what happened in the 1990s and in 2004,” Vucic stressed.
Let us remind you that in June in Brussels, another attempt to negotiate the normalization of the situation between Serbia and Kosovo with the mediation of the EU ended in vain.
Kosovo, where over 90 percent of the population are ethnic Albanians, declared independence from Serbia in 2008. Belgrade still considers the region a part of Serbia. Kosovo’s independence was also denied by several EU members, Russia and China. Ukraine also does not recognize the independence of Kosovo, but since last autumn it has recognized its passports.
