Washington has long called for an increase in oil production to lower prices, but OPEC refuses.
Russia says that the United States is persuading a number of countries to increase oil production in order to lower its prices. This statement was made on Thursday, November 25, by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, Interfax writes.
“The United States is imposing barriers with one hand, very hypocritically by the way, for the export of Russian energy resources to the European market, and extends the other hand, persuading us and other producing countries to pump more to bring down their prices”, she commented on the new US sanctions against Nord Stream-2.
Zakharova added that Moscow considers unilateral sanctions illegitimate.
Recall that at the OPEC+ meeting in early November, it was decided not to accelerate the pace of oil production, that the United States called for.
To lower oil prices, US President Joe Biden recently announced his intention to sell 50 million barrels of oil from the reserve, coordinating this step with China, Japan, India, South Korea and the UK.
Despite this, oil prices are up again.
