Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) Nicu Popescu discussed with US representatives the current situation in Moldova and regional security issues.
The discussion took place as a videoconference organized by the American analytical center German Marshall Fund. It was attended by representatives of departments of the US Congress, the State Department, the US Agency for International Development and various international non-governmental organizations, reports infotag.md
According to the report, the participants of the discussion “discussed the progress of the Moldovan authorities in the development of the country in the context of economic and security challenges in the region.” In particular, issues related to the current energy crisis, security developments and their impact on internal processes, the course of the Moldovan reform program and the impact of COVID-19 were discussed.
“We confirm the interest and commitment of the Republic of Moldova to democratic values and the possibility of concrete support and assistance from the United States and international development partners to increase the sustainability and strengthen our country’s efforts to strengthen the security of citizens, increase prosperity and promote the country’s reforms,” Popescu said, confirming his readiness to intensify the activities of working groups within the framework of a Strategic dialogue with the United States.
He spoke about the strategy of Moldovan diplomacy based on the “4 D principle” – European development, dialogue, diaspora and economic diplomacy.
