The candidate status for Moldova does not give it the prospect of joining the European Union. Moldova will remain, like Turkey, a candidate for decades.
Former Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin expressed this view, reports noi.md
“No one in the European Union tells us what to do with Transdniestria and how to solve the Transdniestrian problem, no one will accept us into the European Union. This proves once again that granting Moldova the EU candidate status is a propaganda trick,” the former president said.
Voronin believes the status deprives the country of geopolitical freedom.
According to Voronin, Moldova was granted candidate status only because of the difficult situation in the region.
