Gianna Gancia, Member of the European Parliament for Italy, has sent a request to the European Commission in which she asks it to look into the violations of freedom of speech in Moldova. The request specifies that the MEP intends to tell the entire European community about the arbitrariness of the authorities in Moldova and the limitations of freedom of speech by closing TV channels and dispersing protesters, a-tv.md reports. “The EU Commission should give an opinion on this issue and make sure that human rights violations and corruption are combated. And to make sure that the foundations of the European Union, such as freedom of the media and the press, are not undermined,” Gianna Ganci’s request reads. At the time of writing, the press services of the government, parliament, MFAEI and the presidential administration had no comment on Gianna Ganci’s request.
