While the 5+2 negotiation format is frozen because of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Chisinau should have a direct dialogue with Tiraspol. The U.S. Ambassador to Moldova, Kent Logsdon, said this yesterday on the TV8 program Cutia Neagră, tv8.md reports. According to him, the U.S. supports the Transdniestrian settlement within the 5+2 format, whenever possible. “This is the only negotiating format for today, and the U.S. will continue to support it and the settlement of the Transdniestrian issue based on respect for Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while working out a special status for Transdniestria,” the diplomat said. Right now, it is difficult to say when representatives of Russia and Ukraine will be able to resume talks on the situation in Moldova and the Transdniestrian issue. However, Logsdon encouraged further dialogue between the two banks of the Nistru/Dniester.
