Home / Security / Borrell: Sending EU Troops to Ukraine Has Never Been on the Agenda
Sending troops from the European Union to Ukraine is not and has never been on the agenda. This was stated by the head of the EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in an interview with El Pais. At the same time, Borrell noted that European servicemen are involved in the training of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in particular Western tank crews, rbc.ua reports. “It is necessary to have trained crews for tanks. Their (AFU fighters - ed.) training has already begun as part of the European Union military mission in training camps in Poland and Germany. It’s not like learning to drive a car, it requires several weeks of very specialized training,” he said. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, ruled out the possibility of European troops taking part in combat operations in Ukraine. He said that the EU was not a party to the conflict. He also noted that training for the Ukrainian military to master western tanks had already started in Poland and Germany as part of the EU military mission.
