In a program on Radio Moldova, the speaker of parliament confirmed the intent of the Moldovan side to blow up the runway of Chisinau International Airport “in case we are attacked”.
These plans were initially revealed by Nicu Popescu, foreign minister of Moldova. According to him, the authorities were considering the option of blowing up the runway at the Chisinau International Airport in 2022, just after Russia started the war in Ukraine, so as not to allow the Russian army to take over the strategic target, bani.md reports.
The rationale behind such plans was that “on February 24, 2022, the Russian army’s advance in Ukraine was active, and the situation was complicated by various maps, which showed that Russia would very soon reach the border of the Republic of Moldova.”
