The PAS MP Vitalie Jacot promised that people who wear the St. George ribbon on May 9 will be punished. He stated this on the air in Întreabă Ghețu on TV8. “What will the authorities do on May 9, when most of the people will wear this ribbon?”, the MP asked. “They will be documented and punished.” According to him, wearing the St. George ribbon in Moldova is a gross offense that is punished “very harshly.” “In this context, I want to urge people to refuse of testing the system. Because this is an illegal violation, with a rather serious fine. As I said, this is an offense that is very severely punished,” Vitalie Jacot said. On April 11, 2023, the judges of the Constitutional Court ruled that the use of the St. George ribbon is prohibited only if it is associated with “justifying or glorifying acts of military aggression, war crimes or crimes against humanity.”
