The Moldovan diaspora in Russia calls on the Moldovan authorities to resume constructive dialogue with Moscow and to revive traditional friendship and cooperation.
This is stated in a letter that representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in Russia sent earlier to Moldovan President Maia Sandu, expressing concern over official Chisinau’s behavior.
The letter notes that Russia creates conditions for work, education, business and participation in public life for citizens of CIS countries, including Moldova. According to the data of Moldovan state bodies, about 0.3 million Moldovans lived in Russia in 2021.
There are many associations of Moldovans in Russia, providing assistance to compatriots on any issues, as well as promoting and preserving the Moldovan language and culture. For instance, the Moldovan community of Kursk under the leadership of Elena Bulhak totals about 3,000 compatriots. The community regularly organizes national cultural events: the festival “Martisor”, the festival “Friendship of the peoples of Kursk oblast and Moldova”, and so on. In 2023, the construction of an ethno-village will begin in Krasnikovo, Kursk oblast. There a Moldovan farmstead will be created, where it is planned to present the multinational culture of Moldovans and other peoples living in Moldova.
In August 2023, amidst the denunciation of the CIS agreements and the reduction of the staff of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in Russia addressed an official letter to President Maia Sandu, expressing concern over official Chisinau’s behavior. The Moldovan diaspora in Russia calls on the president and the government to resume a constructive dialogue with Moscow and to revive the traditional friendship and cooperation that have linked the peoples of our countries for centuries.
