The Commission for Emergency Situations (CES) of Chisinau municipality declared a state of emergency in the municipal education system. This was announced by mayor Ion Ceban. Thus, the commission recognized as illegal the orders of the Moldovan Ministry of Education to dismiss the head of the Main Department of Youth and Sport, Andrei Pavaloi. The Chisinau commission ruled that he can continue working until the court assesses the ministry’s decision on the dismissal legitimacy. “Diplomatic missions have been informed about this situation and the mess in the government. One could write books about the autonomy of local public administrations in our country, but in fact mayors are oppressed. (...) These actions, as well as many others taken earlier, can in no way be called European standards and steps towards European integration,” Ion Ceban commented on the situation.
