Ostalep on the Transfer of the Stadium to the USA: We Allow Someone to Impose Their Rules

The transfer of the land plot of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau for the construction of a new building of the US embassy is an unpleasant story, it is shameful and sad. This opinion was expressed by security expert and former Deputy Foreign Minister Valeriu Ostalep in Ludmila Belchenkova’s programme “Tema”. At the same time, Ostalep believes that “we deserve it as a society because we put up little resistance and let someone impose their rules.” According to him, they name some abstract sums, talk about building some kind of center, planting trees, landscaping. “It’s all designed for fools. We supposedly don’t know how to plant trees ourselves. Or we can’t. And we need people to come from far away and tell us that they will give some money, it is unclear when and to whom, to some center, saying that you will see how everything will be fine”, - said Valeriu Ostalep. The Moldovan government said earlier that the sale price of the 5.2-hectare land plot of the former Republican Stadium in Chisinau for the construction of a new building of the US embassy could reach 15 million euros. These are preliminary figures, while the final ones will be made public after negotiations on the sale and purchase of the land plot are finalized. According to plan, the funds from the sale of the land will be used for several important projects: the creation of the Universal Centre for Culture and Contemporary Art; the renovation of sports schools throughout the country; and the feasibility study and design of the future National Stadium.
