President Maia Sandu has never officially visited the left bank of the Dniester river. The head of state says she refrained from visiting the unrecognized region in order to “maintain stability” on both banks of the Dniester, but she is always ready to meet with the citizens of the region when they come to the right bank. “We want to maintain stability, especially in a situation of war in Ukraine, and it is inappropriate to destabilize it. I am sure that there will be actions from the other side that will turn into destabilizing ones,” Maia Sandu said on Thursday, 16 May, during the Cutia Neagră programme. The President also referred to the obstacles artificially created by the unrecognized authorities in Tiraspol when entering the region and stressed that if she cannot meet with the citizens from the left bank of the Dniester, she has no other reason to visit there.
