According to the results of the second round of snap parliamentary elections in France, the left-wing alliance won, while the pro-presidential bloc got the second place, and the right-populist National Rally with its associates was in the third place. According to the country’s interior ministry, the left-wing Popular Front won 182 seats, Emmanuel Macron’s pro-presidential bloc Together won 168 and the far-right National Rally of Marine Le Pen and her allies won 143. Jean-Luc Melenchon, leader of France Unbowed from the left-wing alliance, has already said that President Emmanuel Macron should invite the Popular Front to run the country. Macron’s party chairman Stephane Sejournet said he was willing to work with the main parties but ruled out any agreement with Melenchon’s political force. The French president has said he will wait for the new parliament to find some “structure” to consider its next move. The official results were broadly in line with exit polls released the day before. They are sensational, as the latest polls indicated that the National Rally, if it does not get an absolute majority, will still become the party with the largest representation in the parliament. In the first round, the National Rally and their associates won the most votes, with a significant margin over the pro-presidential bloc.
