Moldovan President Maia Sandu considers the candidacy of former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo as an unaffiliated presidential candidate to be another Kremlin scheme. The head of state urged citizens to be united and not to allow oligarchs and thieves to return to power.
‘Oligarchs and the Kremlin agreed and found a candidate. It is clear that the Kremlin wants the thieves to return to power in Moldova, because the Kremlin knows that the thieves will sell our country. And accordingly, those from the Kremlin will use this for their own purposes,’ Maia Sandu said in an interview with Nordinfo.
The President does not consider former Prosecutor General Stoianoglo an independent figure. She urged citizens to ‘be careful’ not to allow oligarchs to return to power in Moldova.
‘We must remain united and cautious. Do not allow oligarchs and thieves to return. We have a clear path, a serious mission - to bring order to the country, increase the welfare of citizens, continue maintaining peace, build a justice system, and a state that can provide a good life for every citizen,’ the head of state said.
Updated. Moldova’s former President reacted to Maia Sandu’s statement. Igor Dodon accused the current President of abuse of power and ‘illegal dismissal of Prosecutor General Stoianoglo’.
‘She wanted a Commissioner Cattani - so here he is. But he will not obey PAS or anyone else. As for the clichés used by Maia Sandu, no one pays attention to these false, hysterical labels anymore. People themselves can make mature conclusions and vote so that the country has a responsible, decent and fair in all respects President, as everyone knows Alexandru Stoianoglo to be,’ Dodon said on facebook.
