Former President Igor Dodon claims that the daily visits of EU officials to Moldova in support of Maia Sandu constitutes a violation of the law and, among other things, of European standards.
“If any other candidate had done something similar, he would have been immediately excluded from the election campaign. Maia Sandu and her party are flagrantly violating the law, and European partners are turning a blind eye to this,” Igor Dodon said during a live broadcast on Facebook, newtv.md reported.
We would like to remind you that more and more European officials have been visiting Moldova lately. In early September, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the chief prosecutor of the European Prosecutor’s Office, Laura Codruta Kovesi, visited Chisinau. Yesterday, Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Luc Frieden arrived in Moldova. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will pay a visit to Chisinau on 16 September.
Moldova was visited by officials from outside the country in August too. The last visit was paid by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on 31 August. And deputies of the Group for Interparliamentary Relations with Moldova of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania were in Chisinau on 26-28 August.
In addition, Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson and Swedish Civil Defense Minister Carl-Oskar Bohlin visited Moldova in August.
