European Union ambassador Janis Mazeiks believes that he has become a victim of propaganda organized by the Kremlin. According to him, this aspect will be specially harmonized in line with the request of the Moldovan authorities, reports tvrmoldova.md. The clarification followed deliberate distortion of his previous statements on the subject. A recent statement by the EU ambassador to Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, on the turnover of capital in the EU was exposed to propaganda. When asked by journalists, the diplomat explained that he was referring to the practice of some European countries, but this is decided by the governments of the respective states and there is no law that would require the sale of land. “I heard rather clear messages of the President and the Prime Minister that Moldova will safeguard national interests in the negotiation process. And I can confirm that this is the goal of the negotiations. Almost all the countries that have become EU members in the last 20 years have agreed on various bans and restrictions on the sale of land to foreigners, and this is waiting for Moldova,” Mazeiks said. However, the statement by the head of the EU delegation was quickly distorted and formed the basis of disinformation campaigns surfaced in the public space. “Many of these discussions are not steming from Moldova, but from Russia,” Mazeiks said, once again emphasizing the importance of safeguarding our country’s national interest. False reports on this topic have been debunked by foreign policy experts. They cited the examples of countries such as Romania, Hungary, Poland, Latvia and Croatia, which have established a complete ban on the sale of agricultural land to foreigners for a certain period. Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that within the accession talks, Moldova will also demand the application of restrictions on the sale of land to foreign citizens. The accession talks started this summer.
