The Power of Farmers Association has again demanded the resignation of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea.
In addition, the association appealed to the government, parliament and the president with a request to identify urgent measures to stop the collapse of the agricultural industry, which ensures the country’s food security, reports noi.md.
“The deplorable situation of farmers, who provide the most important crops for the country’s food security: wheat, corn and sunflower, is deteriorating every day. The financial support announced by the Government has been delayed for a long time, and the legislative measure, developed without the participation of farmers and imposed by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, is almost ineffective. Farmers receive notices of compulsory insolvency proceedings from creditors. The collapse of the agricultural industry, especially farmers who cultivate 80% of the area of agricultural land and ensure the food security of citizens, is inevitable if radical measures are not urgently taken to intervene in it.
These measures include:
- The resignation of the minister, who, due to his incompetence and attitude, did not listen and did not take into account proposals to remedy the situation from small and medium-sized farmers on the verge of bankruptcy. On the contrary, by his actions he demonstrated that he protects the interests of offshore companies and foreign agricultural holdings to the detriment of national interests and local producers. The proof of this is the measures taken with great delay last year, which enriched the monopolies for the export of grain and oilseeds, and recently the last measure announced by Mr. Bolea was the intention to introduce subsidies per hectare from 2025 only for sugar beet producers. The ultimate beneficiary of this money is a foreign monopoly company managed by the former prime minister- minister during the Plahotniuc regime.
- Revision of the legislative framework for the adoption of effective urgent measures to save the agricultural sector, including the amendment of Law 240 of 09/13/2024. The Association of Producers and Processors of Cereals and Oilseeds Forța Fermierilor (Farmers Power) appeals to the President, Parliament and Government of the Republic of Moldova to take these two absolutely necessary emergency measures. We also call on other associations to support the demand for the resignation of Mr. Vladimir Bolea,” the association said in its appeal.
