The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has unanimously rejected Calin Georgescu’s request to suspend the Romanian Constitutional Court’s decision to annul the 2024 presidential election.
“The European Court of Human Rights at today’s plenary session unanimously decided not to impose any provisional measures in the case of Calin Georgescu v Romania (application no. 37327/24).
The lawsuit concerns the cancellation by Romania’s Constitutional Court of the results of the presidential election in which Georgescu was a candidate,” the court said in a statement, Digi24 reported.
Georgescu demanded interim measures, such as suspending the Constitutional Court judgement and resuming the electoral process.
On 31 December 2024, Judge Cristina Ardelanu of the Bucharest Court of Appeal dismissed as unfounded Calin Georgescu’s request for a second round of the Romanian presidential election run-off.
