MP Marina Tauber filed a complaint with the National Integrity Authority (NIA) asking to verify the income and assets of Viorel Cernauteanu, head of the Inspectorate General of Police.
The MP points to “suspicions related to non-declaration of assets” and “conflict of interest”, unimedia.info reports.
“From the available information published in the media, there are reasonable suspicions regarding the commission by Viorel Cernauteanu of unlawful actions related to non-declaration of assets, submission of false or incorrect information in the declaration. Moreover, there are reasonable suspicions about the ownership of unjustified property by the Cernauteanu family,” the document reads.
It also mentions “unlawful acts related to conflict of interest”.
The Cernauteanu couple and their parents bought a house in the suburbs of Chisinau in 2023. The building is located in a small, newly built area on the outskirts of Colonita, has an area of about 245 square meters and two levels.
The video of the house was initially published by Vasile Costiuc, leader of the Democracy at Home party. The IGP later issued a press release stating that the house shown by the activist did not belong to Cernauteanu.
At that time, a RISE Moldova journalist went to Colonita to see the house of the police chief, and it matched the one shown in the video by Costiuc.
