The far-right Romanian presidential candidate Calin Georgescu has finally lost in court in a lawsuit that demanded the resumption of the election procedure and the organization of a second round.
The High Court of Cassation and Justice has definitively rejected Georgescu’s appeal against the lawsuit in which he demanded the “suspension” of the documents declassified by the Supreme Council of National Defense, on the basis of which the CC made an unprecedented decision to annul the results of the first round, eurointegration.com.ua quoted digi24.ro as saying.
The court rigmarole on this lawsuit has lasted since December, filed by the Association for the Defense of Public Freedoms. The Bucharest Court of Appeal, where the lawsuit was first filed, rejected it as inadmissible.
This is the second time Georgescu has lost a trial in Romania over cancelled elections.
In January, the European Court of Human Rights rejected Georgescu’s request to suspend Romania’s CC decision to annul the first round results and restart the entire electoral process.
