Home / Society / Railways of Moldova to Resume Dismissing Retirement-Age Workers
The decision was made due to a decrease in workload and the critical economic situation in which the company finds itself.
According to the regulation signed by Acting General Director Sergey Kotelnik, all regional divisions of the Railways of Moldova (CFM) are required to initiate the procedure for terminating individual labor contracts with employees who have reached retirement age, reports bani.md.
The administration justifies this measure as part of the cost-cutting process and the rationalization of human resources in an attempt to stabilize the company, which is in financial collapse.
According to the document, the dismissals will be carried out based on Article 85, paragraph (2) of the Labor Code of the Republic of Moldova. In case of refusal to voluntarily terminate the contract or failure to meet the criteria, the contracts will be terminated in accordance with Article 86, paragraph (1), letter y¹) of the Labor Code. Each case will be presented in writing to the Acting General Director by April 15, 2025, and the scanned dismissal orders will be sent to the human resources department by email.
Currently, there are 5,700 employees working at the CFM.
This is not the first harsh measure taken by the CFM in recent months. On April 7, the company put locomotives, wagons, and trucks up for auction, attempting to raise funds to pay off its salary arrears. The company’s total debt exceeds 190 million lei, and more than 4,800 employees remain in a state of uncertainty.
