According to the head of European diplomacy, the reintegration process and the EU accession process are separate matters, and progress on the European path depends primarily on the pace and quality of reforms implemented by the authorities. The European official reminded of the assistance provided by EU member states to citizens on both sides of the Dniester when the Transnistrian region was left without gas after Gazprom had ceased supplies. She also mentioned the precedent of other countries that joined the public bloc with similar territorial issues, but on the condition of completing the entire reform process, according to Moldova1. “Of course, the EU integration is an important process, and we are well aware of what this process entails. If we talk about specific aspects, you know that in January there was an energy crisis, and the European Union provided significant help in resolving it. We provided concrete support to overcome the energy crisis. It is important that any such conflicts do not affect the EU accession process or that the accession process is not impacted by the conflict. However, these two processes are different. Ultimately, it largely depends on the reforms to be implemented, and reintegration, of course, is of interest to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. We want there to be no tension of this kind,” said Kallas.
