Moldova’s Ministry of Justice and key justice institutions will receive international support to improve cyber security under a $600,000 project funded by the Japanese government. The project “Strengthening Cyber Resilience in Critical Sectors of the Republic of Moldova” will contribute to protecting the public sector from cyber-attacks and ensuring continuity of basic services to citizens, moldpres.md reports. Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru emphasized the importance of the project in the context of justice reform in Moldova. “The Ministry of Justice manages a complex digital system that supports the justice reform process - a central pillar in the country’s European integration path. Greater use of digital technology brings important benefits in terms of efficiency and access to services, but it also increases cyber risks. Investments in modern infrastructure, advanced equipment and robust security policies are crucial to our defense against emerging threats,” said Veronica Mihailov-Moraru. Japanese Ambassador to Moldova Yoichiro Yamada expressed his country’s commitment to back the reform of the Moldovan justice system, which is crucial for Moldova’s development as a democratic state. “Persistent progress on judicial reform will be a determining factor in attracting more investment and creating a healthy business environment,” said the Japanese ambassador. The project will also include equipping the Ministry of Justice and other institutions with modern IT equipment that meets international security standards. A cyber security audit will be conducted at the National Institute of Justice and measures to improve IT security will be gradually introduced. “Through strategic partnerships and smart investments, this project will contribute to a more secure and efficient judicial system prepared for the digital challenges of the future,” said Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova.
