Tudor Ulianovschi believes that Moldova may face a crisis similar to the one in Georgia, when the presidency and parliament were in standoff.
According to the politician, this is precisely why Maia Sandu wants to transform the Supreme Security Council into the highest executive body, admitting that after the upcoming elections she may no longer have a majority to support her, reports ziua.md.
Ulianovschi draws attention to the risks associated with this initiative if it is approved by parliament.
“A scenario is being prepared in which the government does not want to relinquish power through democratic means — namely, to militarize the Supreme Security Council by turning it into an executive body directly controlled by the supreme leader of PAS. It is being turned into a political weapon, in preparation for a situation in which, after the parliamentary elections on September 28, PAS will no longer have a majority,” said Tudor Ulianovschi on the program Vocile Puterii on Exclusiv TV.
The politician drew a parallel with the situation in Georgia, when the presidency was in opposition to the government and parliament — with the difference that, in the case of the Republic of Moldova, the presidency holds higher powers compared to them.
