Romanian political analyst and profiler H.D. Hartmann said that the idea of uniting Moldova with Romania is unrealistic and does not enjoy the support of the majority of Romanians. “Anyone who seeks Moldova to unite with Romania should realize that it will not be easy, because there are problems not only for Moldova, but also for Romania itself. Do not think that you will get into ‘a land of milk and honey’,” H.D. Hartmann, political analyst, profiler and Romanian journalist, said on the Podcast Politik programme, noi.md reports. When asked by the anchor whether Moldova’s unification with Romania was possible, Hartmann denied it and provided relevant reasoning. “Is unification possible? - No! Firstly, Romanians don’t want it. Romanians do not want unification with Moldova. We have a small group of Unionists, just as we have monarchists, although Romania is not a monarchy. These Unionists dream of ‘La Medeleni’ [ed. note: trilogy by Romanian writer Ionel Teodoreanu], novels from the 30s, written to order, which praised beautiful Bessarabia.... No! The integration of Bessarabia into Romania was a serious problem, it was extremely difficult. Then we have regional conflicts, anti-Semitism, problems with the Roma population. These are fundamental issues that the Romanian state has never been able to solve. Unification is a joke. Yes, it is a political project, there is a group of people who want to unite Bessarabia with Romania - fine, I have nothing against it. But what will you do with Transnistria? And with Gagauzia? The moment when you as a state want to implement such a political project, I, as a profiler, get breath and say: wait, here is one problem, here is another - are you ready to accept them? When you seek to unite with the historical territory donated by Cantemir.... good people, look in a history textbook: when Dimitrie Cantemir lived and what he got for becoming a prince with the Tsar. We have a common territory, a common history, we have Stefan cel Mare, but our paths were different. It is neither my fault nor yours that Stalin pushed Transnistria towards Moldova. It is what it is. From this point of view, I respect the Unionist views, but you have to take into account the fundamental problems that will get in the way. It will not be easy for you either, because Romania has its own problems, not only for Moldova. And it will not be easy for us, because Moldova has its own problems. Do not think that you will get into a land of milk and honey,” the political analyst said.
