Adela Raileanu, a member of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS), accuses the Minister of Education, Dan Perciun, of negligence and lack of transparency regarding disagreements related to the 12th-grade history textbook. According to her, the minister downplayed the seriousness of the remarks received from important international institutions and failed to present the official documents to the public, reports newtv.md. Raileanu claims that although Minister Perciun publicly stated that the remarks “are not dramatic issues that would justify the withdrawal” of the textbook, he did not disclose the received opinions or criticisms, including those from the Elie Wiesel Institute (Romania), the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial (Israel), and the Jewish Community of the Republic of Moldova. In a public post, the MP presented a document from the National Institute for Studying the Holocaust named after Elie Wiesel, which states that the textbook: Omits the genocidal nature of the Antonescu government; Mystifies and glosses over the racist and anti-Semitic nature of the regime; Contains inappropriate quotations, distortions, and falsifications of historical reality. “It is hard to understand why the current regime is trying to ‘correct’ the memory of Holocaust victims through reissues of school textbooks,” Raileanu commented, adding that the ministry is obliged to fully publish all received observations and opinions so that historians, researchers, and public opinion can properly assess the situation.
