Home / Politics / Media: EU Accession Talks with Ukraine and Moldova Unlikely to Launch in June
The likelihood of launching EU accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova in June 2025 remains low.
This was reported by Ricard Jozwiak, the European editor for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, citing his sources in Brussels, writes European Pravda.
“It now seems unlikely that accession talks with Ukraine and Moldova can be opened this month. This is a big blow, as there were hopes that it would happen in the first half of 2025,” Jozwiak writes.
European Truth previously learned that diplomatic circles believe it may be possible to unblock the negotiation process after the end of the Polish presidency, that is, starting from July.
Therefore, the idea of splitting the package between Moldova and Ukraine has also been postponed for now, with hopes that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will lift the veto and the need for it will disappear.
If by the end of summer, it becomes clear that Orban is completely unwilling to make concessions, the EU may turn to a ‘Plan B’.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Olga Stefanishyna, expressed optimistic expectations in early June that the opening of the first three negotiation clusters might be possible by the end of June.
