The leader of the Respect Moldova movement, Marian Lupu, accused the PAS government of using tactics to intimidate voters in order to hide its lack of results in key areas such as the economy, justice, education, energy and demographics. Lupu noted that the authorities in Chisinau “use scare tactics” in the absence of concrete achievements. He recalled a number of recent statements made by the government, including: the inability of Moldovans from the diaspora to return to the graves of their ancestors, the release of criminals sentenced to life imprisonment, and, most recently, the threat of “10,000 Russian soldiers” in the event of PAS’ defeat in the elections, according to newtv.md. “This is a tactic designed to instill fear in voters who are not accustomed to analyzing. Some still believe what high-ranking officials in Chisinau say and vote out of fear rather than rationally. PAS wants frightened and confused voters, because only a frightened voter will not see the economic crisis, skyrocketing prices, chaos in the judicial system, the politicization of institutions, mass labor migration and demographic decline,” said Lupu. “Let’s assume, hypothetically, that pro-Russian forces come to power. How could they bring Russian troops into Transnistria if Moldova is surrounded by Ukraine and Romania, a member of NATO?” Lupu asked. Marian Lupu believes that the current government is exploiting people’s fears instead of building an electoral platform based on facts, and that its manipulative tactics demonstrate a profound lack of respect for its own voters.
