Former Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu is joining the Action and Solidarity Party team and will run in the parliamentary elections on 28 September. The politician made the announcement on social media.
“Dear friends, I have decided to take an important step. A step forward together with the Action and Solidarity Party team. A natural step towards consolidating our European path,” he wrote, according to deschide.md.
According to Popescu, the elections on 28 September are, without exaggeration, the most important in the recent history of the Republic of Moldova.
“Their outcome will determine whether we move forward on the European path or risk losing almost everything we have built and returning to isolation, corruption and instability. This is a fundamental choice. For the direction of the country. For our daily lives. For the safety of each and every one of us,” the former minister noted.
“Neither I nor the vast majority of citizens of this country want to lose what we have achieved through hard work, reforms and sacrifices. We want to protect every step we have taken and accelerate our path to Europe. The road is open. Europe is waiting for us. Everything depends on us. I urge you to move forward together with confidence, responsibility and determination. For a European Moldova. Now, not in a decade,” he added.
Nicu Popescu served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from June to November 2019 (Sandu government) and from 2021 to 2024 (Gavrilita and Recean governments).
