Home / Politics / Decisive Hearing in Tauber’s Case: Prosecution Seeks 13 Years in Prison
The final arguments in the criminal case against MP Marina Tauber began on Friday morning, but as expected, she did not appear at the hearing.
Lawyers did not disclose details about her whereabouts, although last week Tauber was spotted at a convention of the Victory bloc, controlled by fugitive oligarch Ilan Sor, who was convicted of bank fraud and is hiding in Moscow, according to tvrmoldova.md.
The prosecutor’s office is seeking a 13-year prison sentence for MP Marina Tauber, who is accused of illegally financing the former Sor party, and to have her placed on the wanted list. This motion was made during the court proceedings at a hearing on 11 July at the Buiucani Court.
In his closing arguments, prosecutor Ghennadi Epure explained that the punishment was cumulative for the five charges. He also demanded that Marina Tauber be banned from holding public, accounting and party positions for a period of five years, and that 9.7 million lei be confiscated in favor of the state.
On 7 January 2025, MP Marina Tauber flew to Turkey after Judge Olga Bejenari of the Chisinau Court allowed her to leave the country on 27 December 2024.
