Romanian President Nicusor Dan stated that the entry ban imposed on Chisinau Mayor Ion Cheban is a matter of national security. He announced this at a press conference, according to deschide.md. Responding to a question about whether this case had been discussed at a meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defense, the Romanian head of state noted that Romania has other mechanisms for responding to threats to national security. “One such mechanism was applied in the case of Mr. Ceban. That is why we cannot comment further,” said Nicusor Dan. Journalists also recalled that in previous years, Ion Ceban had been received in Romania by many politicians, including former Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. “This will not happen in the next five years,” the president replied. Last week, the Romanian Foreign Ministry announced that Ion Ceban and two other citizens of the Republic of Moldova were banned from entering the country “for reasons related to national security”.
