Elena Dragalin, mother of former Anticorruption Prosecutor Veronica Dragalin and head of the Moldova AID Association in the United States, has publicly broken with the ruling Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), expressing profound disappointment in the very party she once supported. In a video statement cited by ziua.md, Dragalin announced that she is joining the League of Cities and Communes (LOC), accusing the current government of betraying its voters and abandoning its pro-European mission. “I voted for PAS and supported it for years. But today I say it clearly: PAS – no, LOC – yes,” Dragalin declared, adding that the ruling party had betrayed the trust of the people. “Today, I openly say: I am deeply disillusioned. PAS has betrayed our vote. They have hijacked state institutions, stalled reforms, and silenced voices. I no longer believe they are truly pro-European – they only care about holding onto power. LOC is something different,” she added. Elena Dragalin was a vocal supporter of PAS during the 2020 and 2021 electoral campaigns. In April 2024, she was awarded the Medal “For Civic Merit”, one of Moldova’s highest state honors, by President Maia Sandu.
