Vyacheslav Platon has been released on bail in the United Kingdom; however, the extradition process initiated by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova is still ongoing. This was announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office in an official press release. According to the institution, Platon was arrested by British authorities on March 13, 2025, based on an extradition request submitted on September 25, 2024, by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Moldova for several ongoing investigations. Subsequently, a pretrial detention measure was chosen for him, as reported by omniapres.md. The former businessman appealed the arrest decision and twice filed requests for release on bail, but both requests were initially rejected. Later, on May 27, 2025, a second extradition request was submitted for two other criminal cases, which are currently being reviewed by British courts. As part of this second procedure, Platon also filed a request for release on bail. The first request was rejected, but on July 23, 2025, a British court granted his motion, ordering his release on bail in the amount of £330,000 and imposing a number of restrictions, including electronic monitoring. The Prosecutor General’s Office emphasizes that this decision does not cancel the extradition process: “Release on bail only means a change in the preventive measure during the consideration of the requests submitted by the Republic of Moldova.” Both extradition requests have been consolidated and will be reviewed by British courts from November 24 to 28, 2025, in accordance with the approved schedule.
