Home / Politics / EU to Allocate €2.3 Mln to Fight Corruption in Moldova’s Elections
Institutions responsible for combating corruption will receive tools, methodologies, and technical assistance aimed at strengthening their capacity to detect, prevent, investigate, and curb corruption during elections.
“Democracy in the Republic of Moldova is facing hostile interference like never before. However, the citizens of this country deserve transparent processes, especially during this crucial electoral period,” said Peter Wagner, Head of the European Commission’s External Policy Instruments Service, in connection with the European Union’s announcement of a 2.3 million euro support package to combat election corruption and illegal political financing, as reported by ipn.md.
The funding is provided under the “Sustainable Democracy through the Fight Against Corruption” project, implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova.
“Thanks to this project, government institutions will receive more effective tools, better coordination, and legal mechanisms that meet international standards – key aspects of protecting the integrity of elections and strengthening the democratic future of the Republic of Moldova,” said Peter Wagner.
As part of the project, informational and educational campaigns and initiatives in the field of civic education will be carried out to raise awareness about the consequences of election corruption and encourage citizens to make independent and informed choices.
