The former leader of the Democratic Party of Moldova, Vladimir Plahotniuc, posted a new message on social media on Thursday, July 31, announcing his intention to return and hinting at “important events” ahead.
The fugitive oligarch did not provide any details, noting only that all information would be published on his official channels, as reported by newtv.md.
Earlier, the General Prosecutor’s Office announced that the authorities of Greece officially confirmed on July 25 the receipt of the request and the dossier for the extradition case of Plahotniuc to the Republic of Moldova. The documents were sent by Moldovan authorities the day before, on July 24.
Plahotniuc’s lawyer, Lucian Rogac, stated that his client had never opposed extradition:
“He signed all the necessary documents presented by the lawyers, giving his unconditional consent to extradition to the Republic of Moldova,” Rogac clarified.
Recall that Vladimir Plahotniuc and former Democratic Party deputy Constantin Tutu were detained on July 22 at Athens International Airport while attempting to leave Greece. The next day, on July 23, they were placed under preliminary detention.
