Bashkan Evghenia Gutul, who was sentenced today to 7 years in prison, was taken into custody directly in the courtroom immediately after the verdict was announced. Evghenia Gutul will serve her sentence in a semi-closed correctional facility. Additionally, according to the verdict, she is deprived of the right to engage in accounting and financial-organizational activities within political parties. She is also banned from holding the position of a political party member for a period of 5 years, as reported by ipn.md. Evghenia Gutul was convicted on two counts. These relate to her involvement in the systematic importation of significant amounts of undeclared funds into the Republic of Moldova, obtained from an organized criminal group, primarily from the Russian Federation, and their integration into the activities of the former “Shor” party (2019–2022). She is also accused of knowingly accepting party financing from the organized criminal group, totaling approximately 42.5 million lei, during the period from October to November 2022.
